Here’s something to think about… just to get you started. I picked this up somewhere (not the author), but found it amusing none the less.
Adam and Eve said, “Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us.”
And God said, “I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.”
And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve. And it was a good animal. And God said, ” I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG.”
And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them. And they were comforted. And God was pleased. And Dog was content and wagged his tail.
After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, “Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.”
And God said, “I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration.”
And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve. And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat’s eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility. And they were greatly improved. And God was pleased. And Dog was happy. And Cat didn’t give a flame one way or the other…
Today is January 20th, 2017.
Donald Trump is sworn in as president today. Trump becomes president of two different kinds of people. I don’t mean black and white, nor man and woman or rich and poor. It seems that some see this presidency as the beginning of the end, and some see him as the one to save our country. That’s not really what I mean either, but we’ll start from there. I mean saved and unsaved, and that has a bearing on where we are starting. The idea that through this president we are saved or damned. Well, guess what, God is still on His throne, so things don’t end until He says they do. God also controls the nations… their kings and rulers act as God allows them.
Funny how some people look for someone to make things right; that resides in this world. A kind of political saviour. While it’s true that we are exhorted by scripture to help those around us, physically. Additionally, being a good citizen means making good decisions about who we choose to lead us. So we act in this place and time to do our best. However, the bible clearly states the trend of things and our future; we live in a broken and lost world. There will be no saviour that comes from this world.
We christians are expected (and commanded in scripture) to pray for those in authority over us. So we should do that; but our greatest commandment (to do our best to help those around us) is to introduce this lost world to Jesus. To share that peace and assurance that we can enjoy with our friends and neighbors. To remind them that no matter who they think is in charge, God is the author of history.
Things will progress as God in heaven decides, but then Jesus gets to make an end to man’s folly. Remember John the Baptist’s question to the Pharisees, “Who told you to flee from the wrath to come?” Jesus is coming again to “trample out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored.” So if you’re a christian, even though the sea may toss to and fro, you know Who commands the wind and the waves. And, you know that your future is secure because you have settled your debt in advance. You should have peace no matter who is president or what is going on in the world.
But those who are still lost can really have no peace; they have placed some man (or woman) in a position to help them. I believe they’re aware that no salvation can be found in man’s plans, but hope that their “side” will give them some relief. And the statement that Jesus is coming again should terrify them, not console them. But they need to know that they can place their trust (before the great trumpet) in Jesus and the great gift He offers. So this is how christians should help; hands yes, but more than that an introduction to Christ first.
So that our neighbors can find peace (and not fear) as this world turns (and sides go back and forth), and in knowing that Jesus is coming again. Mankind’s ulimate hope resides with God, not with man. Government’s plans, programs, ideas, goals (as evil or well meaning as they might be), are under God’s authority. And one day Jesus will rule the nations. Yes, it’s true, the whole world is in His hands.
